On a night when Rutgers retired the No. 10 jersey of former Scarlet Knight standout and U.S. Olympic gold-medalist
Carli Lloyd, it crushed Big East rival
Villanova to improve to 7-1-0 for the season.
Junior
Gina DeMaio tied her career-high with three assists -- the first two on goals by
Alicia Hall in the 12th minute and
Caycie Gusman on the 27th minute. Hall added a second goal six minutes later.
In the second half, sophomore
Ashley Medcalf scored the first goal of her career and
Kristen Edmonds hit a 35-yard
screamer.
"The execution tonight was beyond exceptional," said Rutgers coach
Glenn Crooks. "We had a way we wanted to defend and a way we
wanted to attack, and the players did everything right."
Rutgers returns to action on Friday when No. 4 Portland comes to Yurcak Field.
