MORNING BRIEFING: Hoyas prosper without star

Ingrid Wells, the "Little General" who earned All-American honors as a freshman for Georgetown, is sitting out the 2008 season to play for the USA in the Under-20 Women's World Cup in Chile later this fall, but that hasn't stopped the Hoyas from getting off to a 6-0-2 start.

Georgetown's resounding 3-0 win at previously unbeaten and untied Villanova on Friday afternoon marked the first time since 2004 it opened its Big east campaign with a victory.

The two big Hoya threats have been junior Toni Marie Hudson, who leads the Big East in goals (8) and points (19), and freshman Samantha Baker, who set up Georgetown's two second-half goals against Villanova with tremendous throw-ins. Baker is second on the team in points (11) and goals (4).
