Nebraska, a national power for more than a decade, is making a spectacular comeback after enduring a 5-10-4 season in 2007 and opening the 2008 campaign with four losses.
The Cornhuskers
are undefeated in their last seven games after opening the Big 12 play last weekend with a 2-1 win over Kansas and 3-2 win over Missouri -- both overtime victories achieved after they rallied to
equalize late in regulation.
Freshman
Molly Thomas scored in the 106th minute to propel Nebraska to an upset of ranked Kansas after
Shay Powell had equalized in th 70th minute.
Canadian
Sari Raber scored the game-winning goal against Missouri
after a great setup by Powell. Nebraska extended the game with a goal in the 89th minute from junior defender
Anna Caniglia on a rebound.
Senior
goalkeeper
Brittany Pfeil collected six saves in both wins.
The two consecutive double-overtime victories mark the second time in Husker
history the team has won consecutive multiple-overtime games. In 1996, Nebraska followed a double-overtime win against Texas A&M in the Big 12 championship game with a quadruple-overtime win over
Minnesota in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
