No. 6 UIC improved to 8-0-2 with a 1-0 victory over over Marquette at Valley Fields on Thursday night. Moriba Diallo
scored his first
career goal with a shot from the top of the box in the 85th minute to win the game for the Flames, who recorded their fifth consecutive shutout. UCONN
Connecticut will be collecting soccer balls for those attending Friday's sold-out game against West Virginia as part of its support for the Kick for Nick organization started in
memory of Wilton, Conn., native Nick Madaras
that collects soccer balls to send to children in Iraq.
While serving with the U.S. Army, PFC Madaras
asked his family to send him a few soccer balls so he could distribute them to the children in Baqubah, but he never got the chance to distribute them. At 19, he was killed by a roadside bomb in
Iraq on Sept. 3, 2006.
Over 9,000 balls have been donated and shipped to Iraq in Madaras' name during the last two years.
All fans who bring a soccer ball to Morrone Stadium
and make the donation to Kick for Nick will receive two complimentary youth tickets for the men's soccer game against Seton Hall on Oct. 31. The first 500 fans who donate a soccer ball will
also receive a free UConn t-shirt.
