Bradley calls in 'Mosquito' Torres

[WORLD CUP 2010] U.S. coach Bob Bradley has included 20-year-old Texan Jose Francisco Torres, who has also been courted by the Mexican national team, into his 23-man roster for the Oct. 11 qualifier against Cuba in Washington, D.C. Other young players called in by Bradley who weren't part of the last squad are Freddy Adu, Danny Szetela and Jozy Altidore.

Torres, who was born and raised in Longview, an East Texas town with a population of about 80,000, was discovered by Mexican power Pachuca while playing in a tournament in Jacksonville, Fla. He joined the club's youth academy at age 16.

Torres debuted for Pachuca's first team one month after his 18th birthday, in the Apertura 2006 semifinals. He saw three minutes of First Division time in the Clausura 2007 and played two full games in the Apertura 2007. During the Clausura 2008, he made five straight starts and saw action in the Concacaf Champions Cup.

This season, the Apertura 2008, Torres has played in 10 of Pachuca's 11 games, including a 90-minute performance in Saturday's 1-1 tie with Necaxa.

The 5-foot-5 Torres is nicknamed the Mosquito.

Pachuca is Mexico's most successful club of the past few years. Since 2006, it has won two Mexican league titles, the 2007 Concacaf Champions Cup, the 2006 Copa Sudamericana, and the 2007 SuperLiga.

The USA, which opened the semifinal round of qualifying with wins at Guatemala and Cuba, and a home victory over Trinidad & Tobago, can clinch a place in the final round of qualifying with a victory against Cuba.

Following the game and the weekend MLS matches, Bradley will announce the travel roster for the qualifier against Trinidad & Tobago Oct. 15 in Port of Spain.

Adu and Altidore join the full national team for the first time during the semifinal round.
