Anaheim, Calif.'s Jorge Flores was crowned the winner of Sueno MLS on Sunday, as the nationally televised (on Spanish language television, anyway) month-long contest came to an end, resulting in an
extended tryout with the Chivas USA U-19 team for the winner.
"I gave my very best during the past five weeks, and now I hope to take full advantage of this opportunity, show my
best with the Chivas USA U-19s, and continue improving as a player," said Flores. As part of his accomplishment, the youngster earned a date with the Univision morning show "Despierta America," which
was televised nationally earlier Monday.
MLS has been trying to carve out a greater niche amongst America's considerable soccer-playing Hispanic public. Carson, Calif.-based Chivas
USA, an extension of the storied Mexican club Chivas de Guadalajara, has been positioned by the league as the driving force of that movement. The new television deal with Univision, the
Spanish-language broadcasting giant, will bring MLS games into more Spanish-speaking homes than ever before.
