MORNING BRIEFING: Notre Dame survives scare

Unbeaten and untied Notre Dame survived its closest scare of the season when the No. 1 Irish edged Villanova, 3-2, on sophomore midfielder Rose Augustin's goal in the first overtime period.

The Irish were up 2-0 after less than eight minutes on goals by Brittany Bock and Kerri Hanks, who extended her goal-scoring streak with a goal in the eighth minute.

But Villanova came back in the second half to score off a pair of corner-kick situations. Grace Hawkins got the first goal in the 51st minute and Laura Sylvester drew the Wildcats even with less than nine minutes to play.

SCORING MILESTONES. Wisconsin-Milwaukee freshman Sarah Hagen scored two goals in a pair of wins -- 7-0 over Cleveland State and 3-0 over Youngstown State -- to bring her season total to 16, which ties the school record Lisa Krzykowski set in 1995 and tied in 1997.

"I looked at that that record and didn't think it would ever be touched," UWM coach Michael Moynihan said of the single-season goal mark. "A player like that comes along once in a program's history. It shows how special of a player Sarah is to tie Lisa's record. It's been 11 years and no one has come close. That just shows how special she is."

-- Junior Nikki Marshall tied the Colorado career scoring record with the winning goal in the Buffs' 1-0 win over Texas in a Big 12 showdown on Friday night. Marshall tied the record of former Buff Katie Griffin with 32 goals and became the all-time leader in game-winning goals with 14.
