Two more advance to playoffs

[MLS] Chicago, which tied Columbus, 2-2, thanks to a pair of goals by Brian McBride, and Chivas USA, a 1-0 winner at San Jose on Justin Braun's goal, clinched playoff spots this weekend. While Chicago celebrated its playoff ticket, Columbus, which got goals by Eddie Gaven and Guillermo Barros Schelotto, clinched the regular-season title (Supporters' Shield).

The Galaxy, which would have been eliminated with a loss, kept its playoff hopes alive while without David Beckham, on duty with England. An own goal and strikes by Edson Buddle and Brandon McDonald gave L.A. the 3-2 win over Colorado and moved it to within four points of third place in the Western Conference with two games left.

D.C. United tied defending champ Houston, 0-0, to keep its playoff hopes alive.

Kenny Cooper scored twice for FC Dallas in a 2-2 tie with Toronto FC to give him 18 goals on the season.

Kansas City gained a crucial three points for its playoff quest when Jimmy Conrad scored in a 1-0 victory over New England.

The top three finishers in each conference earn playoff spots while the next two best in either conference earn passage.
