A big weekend of Euro 2008 qualifying was headlined by Germany's impressive 2-1 away win to the Czech Republic in Group D, thanks two goals from the recently recalled Kevin Kuranyi, Turkey's 4-1
thrashing of defending European champion Greece in Group C, and Serbia's shock 2-1 loss to Kazakhstan in Group A.
Scotland maintained its impressive form run at the top of Group B when it
beat Georgia 2-1 with a last-minute goal at Hampden Park. Bolton's Nicolas Anelka scored a fantastic solo goal against Lithuania to help France keep pace with the Scots, while Ukraine's easy win
over the Faeroe Islands kept the Group of Death close. World Champion Italy, currently fourth in the Group B standings, didn't play.
England was wasteful and disappointing in Tel Aviv,
drawing 0-0 with Israel, as Croatia extended its lead in Group E with a 2-1 win over Macedonia. Russia stayed in second place after winning, 2-0, in Estonia, thanks to two goals from Sevilla
striker Alexander Kerzhakov. Elsewhere, Cristiano Ronaldo continued his amazing run of form, scoring twice as Portugal revived its chance of qualifying in Group A by beating Belgium, 4-0, home.
Poland and Finland are still first and second, respectively, in Group A.
