SOCCER AMERICA profiles one of the nation's top sophomores, Andrew Wiedeman, whose play up front was a key factor in California's 2007 Pac-10 title, and the Bears are again a force on the national scene.

STARTING OUT: I was one of those kids who played basketball, baseball and soccer all the way to high school. I was best at soccer so it was the natural choice.
EARLY SOCCER MEMORY: I miss the tournaments where you get to go to hotels.
FIRST CLEATS: I had the hand me downs from my older brothers, the rubber Umbros and Patricks.
CURRENT CLEATS: The original Nike Lasers.
OTHER SPORTS: Basketball, baseball.
FAVORITE TEAMS: Oakland A's, San Jose Sharks.
FAVORITE PLAYER: Diego Maradona, Eric Chavez (A's).
FAVORITE MOVIES: The Boondock Saints, Old School.

COLLEGE EXPERIENCE: I love it. It's awesome. Berkeley is a different place. It's a nice change of pace. I'm loving it here.
MOST INFLUENTIAL COACH: Kevin Grimes, Pieter Lehrer.
MEMORABLE COACHING ADVICE (from youth coach): My ODP coach told me to "control the controllables". Worry about yourself and not the opponent.
HOBBIES: Hanging out and hitting the books hard. I like playing video games, too. I'm an old school 2 button kind of guy. I like Mario Kart from the old N64.
MUSIC: Chris Brown, The Dream, Jimi Hendrix.
READING: I was really big into the Harry Potter stuff.
VACATION: I like going to Tahoe.
