Nigerian government changes tune

[2009 UNDER-17 WORLD CUP] Just days after announcing that it wouldn't be able to host the 2009 Under-17 World Cup, the Nigerian government agreed to back the organization of the competition but with a smaller budget.

Nigeria rejected the local organizing committee's proposal of a 37 billion naira ($314 million) budget. A budget of 9 billion naira ($79 million) has since been approved.

A FIFA commended Nigeria's preparations for the tournament slated for November 2009 during an inspection tour earlier in the year.

Nigeria hosted the 1999 Under-20 World Cup.
