No. 1 seed Wake Forest left no doubt who has the most explosive attack in men's soccer, trouncing No. 16 seed Dartmouth, 7-0, on Sunday to move into the quarterfinals of the NCAA Division I Men's
The defending champion Deacons, who had struggled to put away William & Mary in the second round, showed no mercy against Dartmouth, knocking five goals past the Big Green in
the second half.
Conditions were miserable in Winston-Salem with a steady rain making it questionable as to whether or not the game would even be played on Sunday. But once the game got
underway, Wake better handled the difficult ground conditions and needed less than seven minutes to take the lead through Corben Bone
, who fired a shot from
the left side of the 18-yard box that got past the diving Dartmouth keeper Sean Milligan
, hit off the inside of the right post and went into the net.
The game stayed 1-0 until 59 seconds before halftime when Sam Cronin
converted a penalty kick.
Junior forwards Cody Arnoux
and Zack Schilawski
each scored two goals in the second half. Arnoux notched his fourth multi-goal game of the season, scoring
his 16th and 17th goals of the year. Schilawski tallied two goals in a game for the third time this season and also notched an assist to give him a career-high five points in the game. Luke Norman
added the seventh goal. Senior forward Marcus Tracy
assisted on two goals in the contest. NOTABLE.
The Deacons extended their home unbeaten streak to 33 games, the fourth-longest streak in NCAA history. GAME SUMMARY: Nov. 30 in Winston-Salem, N.C. Wake Forest 7 Dartmouth 0.
