The feel-good story of the 2008 postseason continued Tuesday as Westmont advanced to the quarterfinals of the NAIA Men's National Championships with a 1-0 win over Baker. While the Warriors were
competing in Fresno, Calif., school resumed Monday for the first time since last month's Tea Fire burned parts of the Montecito campus, destroying eight buildings and 15 faculty homes and leaving
more than 60 students, faculty and staff without homes.
Sophomore forward Dan Sargent
scored the only goal of the game for No. 11 seed Westmont,
which has won seven games in a row.
The home of Warrior coach Dave Wolf
was burned to the ground. One Westmont soccer player lost the home he was
renting, another had his dorm room consumed by fire and a third player's dorm room suffered extensive water damage.
The win over Baker moves the Warriors into Wednesday's quarterfinals
against first-time participant Mount Vernon Nazarene, which upset Lindsey Wilson, 1-0.
