The Bulgarian FA (BFU) announced Tuesday it has fired national team coach
Plamen Markov, 51, after a poor start to the country's World Cup qualifying campaign. Markov had taken the team

Borislav Mihailov told journalists. He did not announce a successor, but said that the team
could still recover in time to qualify for South Africa 2010.
Bulgaria tied its first three qualifiers in European Group 8 against Montenegro, Italy and Georgia, then suffered a 6-1
friendly loss at Serbia.
