TOURNAMENT WATCH: Wake wallops South Florida

Last week it was 7-0. This week it was 5-0 -- 4-0 in less than half an hour. Wake Forest left doubt who is the favorite to win the Men's College Cup with a win over Big East champion South Florida that sends the Demon Deacons to the final four for the third straight year.


Five different Wake players scored goals, three of them set up by Cody Arnoux.
 
"I'm very excited for my team," Wake coach Jay Vidovich said. "We had a tremendous start to the match. Jamie [Franks] got us off to a great start with his goal and then Sam [Cronin] had a great response goal a minute later and set the tone for everything. I'm tremendously happy with how we played and defended right from the beginning."

Besides Franks and Cronin, two other seniors Lyle Adams and Marcus Tracy -- also scored. Junior Zack Schilawski added the fifth goal of the night for the Deacs.
 
"After the game, we were just soaking in the moment of playing our last home game," Adams said. "It's been a great four years for us. Everyone enjoyed the experience one last time of walking up to the field together. Marcus and I were talking before the game that this was our last time walking up to Spry for a game so we might as well make the most of it. I think tonight we all came out to make the most of our last time together on this field."

The game marked the seventh time this season Wake Forest has scored at least five goals in a game. The other opponents were no slouches: Clemson (5-0), UC Santa Barbara (6-2), Virginia Tech (8-2), UNC Greensboro (6-0), Boston College (5-2) and Dartmouth (7-0).

The Deacons are averaging 3.52 goals a game. The NCAA record is 6.77 goals a game set up Saint Louis in 1964.
