Despite earlier indications to the contrary, Manchester United manager
Alex Ferguson has announced a full-strength, 23-man squad to fly to Japan for the World Club Cup this
weekend. At least someone's taking it seriously.
Ferguson had said earlier this season that he might leave some of his first-choice players behind ahead of a December 26 Premier
League visit to Stoke City. That game comes three days after United is due to return from Tokyo, assuming it makes the final.
The team travels to Tottenham Hotspur this Saturday,
then leaves for Japan the next day.
It will enter the competition at the semifinal stage in Yokohama on Thursday, December 18, against either Adelaide United (Australia), Waitakere
United (New Zealand), or Gamba Osaka (Japan). In the other half of the draw, African champion Al-Ahly will play Mexican side Pachuca for the right to play LDU Quito of Ecuador in the second
semifinal. The final is on December 21.
