UEFA To Deliver Rooney Verdict Monday

UEFA will decide Monday whether to punish Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney over his clash with Aalborg's Kasper Risgard at Old Trafford in Wednesday's Champions League group game. Any suspension would mean him missing at least one game when the competition's Round of 16 knockout phase begins in February.

Risgard claimed Rooney deliberately stomped on him during the first half and left marks on his chest, although he also stressed that Rooney had apologized to him. Aalborg's interim coach Allan Kuhn said he thought Rooney had overstepped the mark, and UEFA has confirmed it will take another look at the incident, which was missed by referee Laurent Duhamel.

United manager Alex Ferguson was not inclined to offer his view on the incident, but managed to blame the media for the UEFA investigation. "I am not going to discuss Wayne Rooney," he said. "You press guys have created most of it. You are not getting anything from this club at all on Wayne Rooney. That is it, finished."
