WPS Strikes $10 Million Deal With Puma

Women's Professional Soccer is set to announce Monday a three-year, $10-million deal with German company Puma to be its official equipment supplier, writes Matthew Futterman.

"Women's soccer is on a tremendous growth pattern in the U.S.," said Jochen Zeitz, Puma's chief executive. "This is a huge opportunity for us." Its decision to join forces with WPS "is part of an effort to target its marketing to young women," writes Futterman. The company already has a footwear deal with Brazilian star Marta.

WPS Commissioner Tonya Antonucci said the league and Puma share a vision of building business around women's health and fitness. "We're all about women, girls and moms who are interested in active, healthy lifestyles," said Antonucci. "Puma wowed us" with a campaign to promote WPS and Puma at the grass-roots and retail level in every market.
