AC Milan coach Carlo Ancelotti
was initially not thought to be wildly enthused at the idea of taking L.A. Galaxy midfielder David Beckham
on loan. Now, however, he
thinks that Beckham will boost his injury-depleted squad when he arrives in January since Italian national team midfielder Gennaro Gattuso
is out for the season with a knee injury.
"At this point, Beckham becomes even more useful and important to us," said Ancelotti. Although he admitted that Beckham "doesn't have the characteristics of
Gattuso," who is a dogged defensive midfielder. In fact many skeptics are still wondering exactly what Beckham will contribute to a team already featuring Kaka
, Ronaldinho and
Ancelotti is also hoping to strengthen the Milan defense after its poor showing in the 4-2 defeat at Juventus Sunday. "We are too vulnerable in
defense," said Ancelotti. "We have conceded too many opportunities and that annoys me. The difference between the two sides was defensively. Juve have taken advantage of our mistakes and we
have given away four goals."
