Detroit World Cup foundation makes final grants

[GRANTS] The Michigan Host Committee Foundation, formed following the successful staging of four World Cup 1994 games at the Pontiac Silverdome, has announced $140,000 in grants for inner city soccer programs, its final grants.

The Pontiac Alumni Foundation, sponsors of the Ultimate Soccer Break program which provides soccer programs for more than 300 Pontiac children at Ultimate Soccer Arenas in Pontiac will receive a grant of $40,000.

Think Detroit/PAL, which administers soccer programs for more than 1,800 Detroit children, will receive $100,000 for the development of academy programs for the benefit of inner-city soccer players.

Since 1995, the foundation has provided more than $500,000 in grants to soccer organizations in the state.

"We have helped build soccer facilities from Kalamazoo and Bay City to Petoskey," Roger Faulkner, chairman of the Detroit host committee, said. "We have invested more than $200,000 in fields and equipment and $300,000 in developing soccer programs, primarily in the inner cities. These last two grants for the benefit of children in Pontiac and Detroit are consistent with our goal of enriching lives through soccer"

The presentation of the final grants will be made at Ford Field in conjunction with Wednesday's USA-China women's game.
