The defending national champion
Dallas Texans Red Dallas suffered their first blemish in the U.S. Youth Soccer National League Girls Under-17 Group on
Thursday when they were held to a 0-0 tie by
Ela Elite, but they clinched a berth in the 2009 National Championships with the result.
The Texans
are tied with
Eclipse Select with 5-0-1 records and play for the Under-17 Group title on Friday.
U.S. U-17 star
Samantha Mewis scored for the
Scorpions Elite in a 1-1 tie with Eclipse Select in U-16 play.
The Dallas Texans Red Dallas beat the
Montclair United Thunderbolts, 1-0, on a goal by
Kelley Monogue, her fifth goal in U-16 play.
Each
National League group consists of four teams. The other four teams will play their second series of matches in March in Nevada.
The top two teams from each age group advance to the 2009
U.S. Youth Soccer National Championships, and the top four teams from each age group secure a spot to return to National League play the following season.
The National League teams are
simultaneously competing in the Showcase divisions of the Disney's Soccer Showcase. The winners of the three-game series advance to Saturday's semifinals.
