2. AMERICANS ABROAD: Beasley and Bocanegra score in EPL faceoff

On Monday, defender Carlos Bocanegra headed home his second goal in four days, but again it was the consolation goal in a Fulham loss.

Fulham's 3-1 loss on Monday to Manchester City extended the Cottagers' winless streak to six games as they slip toward the relegation zone. Arsenal and Liverpool are among Fulham's opponents it in its last five games. DaMarcus Beasley scored Man City's second goal, running on to a Joey Barton through ball and stroking calming into the net from seven yards out. It was Beasley's second goal in 13 appearances (7 starts) since joining Man City last August.

Brian McBride played the full 90 for Fulham and Clint Dempsey entered as a 73rd minute sub, his fifth appearance (all off the bench) since joining the club in January. Bocanegra's strike on Monday was his fifth of the season.

Defender Jay DeMerit made his 30th appearance as last-place Watford won its fourth game of the season with a 4-2 victory over Portsmouth. Watford remains nine points deep in the relegation zone. Three other Americans played to ties with their teams on Monday. Reading (goalkeeper Marcus Hahnemann) drew 0-0 at Charlton. Oguchi Onyewu returned to the Newcastle starting lineup (after coming off the bench the last two games) as Newcastle tied Arsenal, 0-0. Everton (goalkeeper Tim Howard) tied 1-1 at Bolton.

In the second tier, midfielder Eddie Lewis scored his third goal in 40 appearances this season as relegation-threatened Leeds United lost 2-1 at Colchester United. With two games left, Leeds is two points within the drop zone.
