Liverpool drops two points in Merseyside derby

[ENGLAND] A late goal by Tim Cahill gave Everton a 1-1 tie at its city rival Liverpool and cost the Reds the outright lead in the Premier League. Afterwards, Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez, whose exit looked to be increasingly likely following the news he had rejected an offer of a contract extension, pleaded for patience.

Liverpool was on the verge of taking a two-point lead in the EPL but instead is tied with Manchester United, which has a game in hand and a better goal difference. The result marked the fourth time in the last five games  at Anfield Liverpool has failed to win.

"It could be better but we have to be positive," said Benitez afterwards. "When you lose two points you have to be disappointed. But let's not forget that we are level on points with Manchester United and we are still in the Champions League. I still believe we can win the title. We have players coming back from injury."

Everton, sixth in the EPL, is unbeaten in seven games -- the Liverpool goal by Steven Gerrard ended a string of six straight shutouts by American keeper Tim Howard.
