A true journeyman

[OFF THE POST] German goalkeeper Lutz Pfannenstiel, 35, has signed for his 24th club, the Norwegian third division's Mangerud Star.

Pfannenstiel's previous work stations have included clubs in Malaysia, Canada, Australia and Albania. He is reportedly the first person to have played pro ball on the six continents defined FIFA (which classes North and South America separately).

"It's not something that I planned," he told AFP. "It's all been completely by chance, but I'm proud of the record."

Pfannenstiel played for German youth national teams, but after failing to break into Bayern Munich's reserve team, ventured to Malaysia before his globetrotting spanned 23 transfers in 15 years.

His better known clubs included Wimbledon and Nottingham Forest (England) and South Africa's Orlando Pirates. He also played in Brazil, Malta and New Zealand.
