Carlos Ruiz to play in Paraguay

[MLS] Carlos Ruiz, who scored 82 goals in seven MLS seasons (2002-08), is signing a six-month contract with Paraguay's Olimpia according to Guatemala's Prensa Libre newspaper.

The 29-year-old Guatemalan striker, who scored the golden goal that gave the Los Angeles Galaxy its first MLS title, in 2002, was released by Toronto FC after the 2008 season.

Ruiz, who was MLS MVP in 2002, moved from the Galaxy to FC Dallas in 2005 to make room for Landon Donovan. Ruiz returned to L.A. in 2008. But he suffered a knee injury in the season opener -- on a red-card foul from behind delivered by Colorado rookie Ciaran O'Brien -- and never regained his form.

He scored only one goal for the Galaxy in 2008 before being traded to Toronto, where he went scoreless in five appearances.
