Former Duke striker Mike Grella
, 22, has signed for English third division (League One) club Leeds United, according to a list of completed transactions on
the BBC website. The forward impressed the three-time English champion with a hat trick last month in an outing for Leeds Reserves.
Other significant moves before the deadline
expires late Monday include goalkeeper Shay Given
's transfer from Newcastle United to Manchester City, while the latter club is loaning out its Brazilian
to injury-hit Everton.
At the time of writing, the tortuous proposed transfer of Russian midfielder Andrei Arshavin
from Zenit St. Petersburg to Arsenal remained unsettled. Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger
said Arshavin will join the Gunners --
contrary to Zenit's stand of earlier in the day. Meanwhile, the return of Robbie Keane
from Liverpool to Tottenham Hotspur was said to be back on, with the
striker said to be at Spurs for a medical ahead of a reported $21 million move.
