Man. City's Richards Arrested For Nightclub Assault

Another day, another nightclub "incident" involving a Premier League star. England and Manchester City defender Micah Richards, 20, was arrested Wednesday over an alleged assault outside a nightclub just before Christmas. A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police said: "A 20-year-old man has been arrested after an assault outside a Hale [in Greater Manchester] nightclub, at about 12.30 a.m. on Dec. 24, 2008."

Richards, who signed a new five-and-a-half-year contract with the club a year ago, was bailed until April 8 "pending further inquiries." City manager Mark Hughes said the club would give Richards its full support, and that he could play in Saturday's home game against Middlesbrough.

"We are very supportive of Micah," Hughes told journalists. "He went to the police station in a pre-arranged appointment. It is an on-going situation, we are aware of that and we are supportive of him." Asked if the defender was in the right frame of mind to play, Hughes replied: "Absolutely." But then during his playing days at Manchester United, Hughes was not exactly known as a quiet, stay-at-home type either.
