Another day, another nightclub "incident" involving a Premier League star. England and Manchester City defender Micah Richards
, 20, was arrested Wednesday
over an alleged assault outside a nightclub just before Christmas. A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police said: "A 20-year-old man has been arrested after an assault outside a Hale [in Greater
Manchester] nightclub, at about 12.30 a.m. on Dec. 24, 2008."
Richards, who signed a new five-and-a-half-year contract with the club a year ago, was bailed until April 8 "pending
further inquiries." City manager Mark Hughes
said the club would give Richards its full support, and that he could play in Saturday's home game against
"We are very supportive of Micah," Hughes told journalists. "He went to the police station in a pre-arranged appointment. It is an on-going situation, we are aware of
that and we are supportive of him." Asked if the defender was in the right frame of mind to play, Hughes replied: "Absolutely." But then during his playing days at Manchester United, Hughes was not
exactly known as a quiet, stay-at-home type either.
