With the scored tied 1-1 against Borussa Dortmund last weekend, Bayern Munich coach Juergen Klinsmann
subbed in Landon
for striker Luca Toni
. Toni fumed, refused to shake hands with fellow forward Miroslav Klose
as he walked off the field, and stormed straight to
the locker room.
While partnered with Donovan, Klose struck twice to lead Bayern to a 3-1 victory.
Bayern president Franz Beckenbauer
said, "Toni is
a typical Italian stirker, who needs a lot of room. That doesn't suit Miro Klose."
Last season, his first with Bayern, Toni scored 39 goals in 46 matches in all competitions.
This season he leads Bayern with Bundesliga 9 goals, followed by Klose's 8, but Toni played poorly in his last two games.
Bayern general manager Uli Hoeness
that Bayern wasted "100,000" chances against Dortmund while the German press is deducing that Klose and Toni have become incompatible.
What that means for Donovan remains
to be seen.
