Officials from Brazilian club Vitoria, following crowd trouble that that resulted in numerous injuries, blamed it on a high-heel wearing woman.
Vitoria denied media reports that as many as 50 fans were injured during the team's home game against Bahia and posted an explanation for the ruckus on its Web site:
"A female fan, who
was wearing high heels, lost her balance and fell on top of another fan and this led to a domino effect. This led to some panic and some fans were slightly injured. They were quickly treated in
the five ambulances by four doctors and eight nurses."
Brazilian media reports, however, said that Vitoria fans, known as The Invincibles, fought in the stands with riot police and with
opposing fans outside the stadium after the game.
