3. DIVISION III: Colby coach goes full-time after 31 years

Mark Serdjenian, Colby's men's head coach for 31 years, will go full-time next fall.

Serdjenian, who has a 221-178-37 career record, has coached the Mules on a part-time basis while working in the Colby Dean of Students office. Serdjenian's other duties will be as a second assistant coach for the Colby men's lacrosse team and an academic liaison for Colby student-athletes.

"I've found my time as academic dean to be tremendously rewarding, and working with students wonderful," Serdjenian said. "The demands of coaching in NESCAC are now such that more time needs to be devoted to that area, so this move comes as a big plus for the men's soccer program."

MIT. Milton Gooding has been tabbed to take over the reins of MIT men's program, replacing Walter Alessi, who began his coaching career with the Engineers in 1975 and is retiring as men's soccer coach. Gooding moves to MIT after 10 years as co-coach at Amherst with his father, Peter Gooding. He is widely considered one of New England's top coaches and his career winning percentage of .697 ranks among the highest active winning percentages in the nation.
