Americans see FA Cup action

ENGLAND. Everton, with Tim Howard in goal, downed Aston Villa (Brad Friedel), 3-1 in the fifth round of the FA Cup. Both Howard and Friedel conceded goals from the penalty spot. With the score 2-1, Howard made on excellent save off a John Carew effort. Clint Dempsey was a 60th minute sub in Fulham's 1-1 tie at Swansea. Jay DeMerit went the full 90 in a Watford backline that was beaten three times by Nicolas Anelka in a 3-1 loss to Chelsea.

SCOTLAND. Rangers' DaMarcus Beasley and Maurice Edu sat out a 0-0 tie against archrival Celtic.

GERMANY. Michael Bradley scored Borussia Monechengladbach's equalizer in a 1-1 tie with Werder Bremen. Landon Donovan played the last 55 minutes in a 2-1 loss at Hertha Berlin. Steve Cherundolo, recovering from a hip injury, didn't see time in a 3-3 tie with VfB Stuttgart.

SPAIN. After the third game since he joined second division Xerez on loan from Villarreal, Jozy Altidore has yet to see action. First-place Xerez beat Salamanca, 2-1.

FRANCE.
Carlos Bocanegra went the distance for Rennes in a 1-1 tie with Nancy. Freddy Adu didn't suit up for Monaco's 1-0 loss to Marseille.

MEXICO. Jose Francisco Torres, who was on the bench for the USA's 2-0 win over Mexico on Wednesday, played 90 minutes for Pachuca in its 3-2 win over UNAM. Edgar Castillo saw 72 minutes of action in Club America's 0-0 tie with Chiapas.
