Brazil's Marta Ready to Shine for LA Sol

Twenty-three-year-old Marta Vieira da Silva might've grown up in playing soccer in the "sandy river bottoms" of remote Brazilian town Dois Riachos, writes LA Times' Grahame Jones, but her superior skills have since taken her all over the world.

Her latest stop is in sunny Los Angeles, where she is set to lead the Sol, and perhaps carry the entire league, when the Women's Professional Soccer (WPS) season kicks off on March 29.

Bringing with her a resume that includes a Pan Am Games gold medal (2007), two Olympic silver medals (2000 and 2004) and three consecutive FIFA Women's World Player of the Year awards (2006, 2007 and 2008), she nonchalantly sums up her still-young but already incredibly impressive career, and perhaps life in general, by simply saying "I go wherever I like and do the things I like to do."
