In the first of a series heading toward the kickoff of the 2009 MLS season on March 22, Goal.com takes a long hard look at the state of third-year team Toronto FC and gives a preview of what me
might expect from a re-tooled team that has more "Canadian feel" with the off-season additions of dreadlocked natives Dwayne DeRosario
and Adrian Serioux
Trying to add even more punch to their second-lowest total of 34 goals, Toronto has added a young Argentine forward and a former U-20
teammate of Lionel Messi
named Pablo Vitti
who "together with D-Ro and Chad Barrett
could form a fearsome triumvirate."
One of TFC's biggest strengths going into the season remains, of course, its loyal crowd at BMI Field, where "fans of all backgrounds and
nationalities converge to support the Reds" and they only lost twice in 2008. "Such is the enthusiasm for the sport that there are more than 6,000 fans on the season ticket waiting list alone,"
reports Talha Zaheer
, adding that "Some quarters have even proposed the idea of a second MLS franchise from the city."
