Angel Officially a Red Bull

Angel could suit up for the Bulls in as little as two weeks, Red Bulls spokesman Eric Tosi said, pending the completion of government paperwork. "I'm extremely excited about this opportunity," Angel said on a teleconference call from Birmingham, England. "When I had the opportunity to talk to Bruce [Arena], I wanted to be a part of what they were trying to do." Red Bulls coach Bruce Arena reiterated that the club's intention was always to use the second designated player slot on a forward or attacking midfielder. "With Juan Pablo Angel we met those goals. He's a fantastic addition not only to the club but to MLS." Since the former U.S. coach took charge of the New York team, the Red Bulls have added Angel, Dutch goalkeeper Ronald Waterreus, and former national team players Clint Mathis and Claudio Reyna, the other DP, to its team's roster.
Angel is also the latest big-name arrival to Major League Soccer since the league unveiled the Designated Player Rule. After Beckham and Reyna signed with New York and L.A., respectively, the Chicago Fire signed Cuauhtemoc Blanco, the Bulls have now added Angel, and Columbus was reportedly set to unveil Argentine forward Guillermo Barros Schelotto of Boca Juniors.
