Edu and Rangers fall in late stunner

[AMERICANS IN BRITAIN] Maurice Edu got his second straight start for Rangers, which was stunned by Inverness, 1-0, at Ibrox on Wednesday and lost the lead at the top of the Scottish Premier League it had shared with archrival Celtic.

Edu, who had one league appearance before starting Saturday at Hamilton, came off midway through the second half. Ian Black's injury-time penalty gave tiny Inverness the victory, which prompted the Ibrox faithful to boo Rangers off the field.

In the English Premier League, Aston Villa's troubles continued when it fell at Manchester City, 2-0. Brad Friedel pulled off a sensational stop on Shaun Wright-Phillips in the first half and could not be faulted on either goal -- a penalty kick by Brazilian Elano and a goal by Wright-Phillips in the dying moments. The result left Aston Villa only three points ahead of Arsenal in the race for England's fourth UEFA Champions League berth.

-- Tim Howard had little to do in Everton's 0-0 tie at Blackburn.

-- Jonathan Spector came on late in West Ham's 1-0 victory at Wigan.

-- Clint Dempsey went the entire way for Fulham, which fell to Hull City, 1-0, on a goal in the last minute.

-- Eddie Johnson had perhaps his most impressive performance with second division Cardiff City, playing the entire 90 minutes in his club's 3-1 win over Barnsley.
