U-20 women win and tie

The U.S. U-20 women's national team opened the Ten Nations Tournament in La Manga, Spain, with a 3-2 victory over Norway and 1-1 tie with France.

Kristie Mewis, Maya Hayes and Sydney Leroux scored as the USA raced out to a 3-0 lead over Norway after 13 minutes before two penalty kicks by June Tarnes drew the Norwegians closer.

Two days later, Casey Short scored in the 90th minute to earn the Americans a tie.

"I was very pleased with the player's resolve today," said U.S. coach Jillian Ellis. "They pushed hard for the equalizer and they deserved the goal. We worked hard defensively but the quality of our passing made possession difficult today. Casey's goal was a fantastic run and she showed great composure in the box."
