6. WORLD: Inter and Lyon fail to clinch titles

Both Inter Milan and Lyon failed in their bids to clinch their respective league titles on Wednesday.

Inter Milan lost for the first time this season when it fell, 3-1, to second-place Roma at home. Inter's hopes of sealing its second successive Scudetto were dashed as late second-half goals from Francesco Totti and Marco Cassetti sealed Roma's win

Lyon all but mathematically wrapped up a record sixth French title in a row when it was held to a 0-0 tie by Rennes at home.

Lyon is 18 points ahead of second-place Toulouse with six games to play. Lyon has to lose all six games and Toulouse would have to win all of its games by a combined margin of 27 goals for Toulouse to overtake Lyon.

In England, Chelsea cut Manchester United's lead in the Premier League to three points when the Blues won, 4-1, at West Ham on Wednesday.

England winger Shaun Wright-Phillips scored two spectacular goals from in a five-minute span during the first half to lead Chelsea. Goals after the break from Ivorians Salomon Kalou and Didier Drogba sealed the victory.

Liverpool regained third place with a 2-0 win over Middlesbrough thanks to two goals from Steve Gerrard. Arsenal is fourth, eight points ahead of Everton and Bolton with four games to play.
