[WPS] Women's Professional Soccer awarded its eighth franchise to Philadelphia, which will begin play in 2010.
The Philadelphia ownership
group, Philadelphia Women's Pro Soccer LLC, is led by
David Halstead and
Matthew Driver.
Halstead will as
president and chief executive officer while Driver, a former New England Revolution assistant, will be head coach and general manager.
The Philadelphia team hopes to play in the stadium
being built in Chester, Pa., for the MLS team also scheduled to begin play in 2010.
"My partner, Matt Driver, has put together an outstanding grass roots soccer organization," said
Halstead. "This organization, combined with the support from the Philadelphia communities, our MLS partners, and distinctive coaching staff, will serve as a tremendous foundation for our team to be
the envy of the league."
