Concacaf Gets $10 million to Help Develop Pro Leagues

Concacaf, the confederation that governs North, Central American and Caribbean soccer, announced today that it has received a $10 million grant from FIFA to fund a two-year program intended to develop the professional leagues of 11 select countries within the region.

The main priority of the redundantly named "WIN in CONCACAF with CONCACAF" is to assist in solidifying the infrastructure of first division leagues in Barbados, Belize, El Salvador, Guyana, Haiti, Honduras, Jamaica, Nicaragua, Panama, Suriname and Trinidad & Tobago, with the funding being "tailored to meet specific needs" of each federation.

Focusing on league and club administration, youth development and competitions, referee development and coaching education, "WIN" is "a dream come true" for those countries, says Concacaf president Jack Warner, but it does come with accountability that requires those selected to submit an annual action plan and document their expenditure of FIFA funds.
