The UEFA Cup quarterfinal draw also occurred on Friday, with perhaps the most intriguing match-up being Manchester City vs. Hamburg, who lost two players to the EPL team within the last transfer
year and have former Tottenham coach Martin Jol
at the helm.
The other three pairings find the second tier competition's two French teams facing off against
Ukranian opponents, with Paris St-Germain hosting Dynamo Kiev and Olympic Marseille traveling to Shakhtar Donetsk in the first leg. The fourth and final coupling has Udinese, the last Italian team
standing in either UEFA undertaking, facing Bundesliga big boys Werder Bremen, who already disposed of AC Milan.
The quarterfinal legs will be played simultaneously on April 9 and
16, while the semifinal legs are set for April 30 and May 7 before the expansive 80-team tournament takes center stage on May 30 in Istanbul, Turkey.
