If It (the 2008 Champion) Ain't Broke, Don't Fix It

What does one do when he inherits the head job at a team that won the league championship last year? For Crew coach Robert Warzycha, the answer appears to be "not much," which so far seems to suit a team built on a returning cast of contributors that are coming off last November's convincing 3-1 win in MLS Cup.

And so in the team's '09 opener, "a relaxed Crew went out and did many of the same things they did last season," writes MLSnet.com's Craig Merz, "falling behind and rallying for a point behind the play of 2008 MLS MVP Guillermo Barros Schelotto." While not the ideal game plan, Merz points out that the comeback Crew garnered points in 12 of 19 matches last season when it surrendered the first goal.

And although it might add some gray to Warzycha's hair, goalkeeper Will Hesmer sums up the team's never-say-die spirit, saying "if that's what we have to do and it leads to another championship season I don't think anyone is going to argue with it."
