WPS to Kickoff Sunday with Seven Solid Teams

With the inaugural weekend of the inaugural Women's Professional Soccer season upon us, Goal.com's Kathryn Knapp previews all seven teams set to compete for the first ever WPS title, highlighting both former WUSA stars while introducing the big international names coming to America.

The L.A. Sol looks to lead the way at least on paper, loaded with not only three-time FIFA World Player of the Year in Marta, but other overseas standouts like France's Camille Abily, Japan's Ayi Miyama and China's Han Duan to go along with battle-tested U.S. Women's vets like Shannon Boxx and Aly Wagner.

The Washington Freedom, which faces L.A. in the league opener on Sunday (live on Fox Soccer Channel at 6 pm ET), could be another favorite, boasting top U.S. talent in the imposing pair of forward Abby Wambach and defender Cat Whitehall, as well as Japanese star Homare Sawa and North Carolina newcomer Alie Long.
