St. Louis product Brandon Barklage
will transfer to Saint Louis University after spending the previous two seasons at New Mexico.
Barklage helped New Mexico to the NCAA
Tournament the past two seasons and totaled 19 points (5 goals and 9 assists) in 42 games. Last season, the 5-foot-11 forward earned first-team Mountain Pacific Sports Federation honors. In 2005,
he was the only freshman to play in every game on the NCAA Division I runner-up team.
Barklage, who helped CBC to a Missouri state championship in 2004, joins a Billiken team that did not
make the NCAA Tournament in 2005 and fell in the second round in 2006, dropping its first game at home to Northwester, 1-0.
The addition of Barklage bolsters an incoming class that
includes Josh Boemecke
(O'Fallon, Ill.) and Casey Herd
SLU fans hope a recent 1-0
victory at Indiana on a goal by Jimmy Holmes
in spring action will give the Billikens momentum leading into the 2007 campaign.
"It was a great effort on both sides of the ball,"
SLU coach Dan Donigan
said. "Jimmy Holmes and Andrew Reeder
connected for the game's only goal, and defensively we
did what we needed to do. This match was a good opportunity for us to gauge where we stand as we continue our spring season. The result tonight isn't the important thing. What is important is
understanding where we need to improve so we can continue to develop."
