[AMERICANS ABROAD] Jozy Altidore, who scored four goals in the last two U.S. World Cup qualifiers, will be out for up to a month because of toe-nail surgery.
Steve Cherundolo, who's been missing from his right back position with the USA, is due to undergo hip surgery and will miss the rest of the Bundesliga season.
Although in great
form for the USA - he scored a hat trick against Trinidad & Tobago April 1 -- the 19-year-old Altidore has yet to see action for Spanish second division leader Xerez, which he joined on loan from
Villarreal in January.
It will be a rare injury layoff for the 30-year-old Cherundolo, who is one game short of his 200th German first division game for Hannover 96.
The USA's
next qualifiers are June 3 at Costa Rica and June 6 vs. Honduras in Chicago.
