Not all Designated Players have worked out in MLS. Claudio Lopez
is an exception. The former Argentina national team star not only has had an impact on the
field for the Kansas City Wizards, but he and his family are so happy to be in Kansas City that he took a pay cut to remain with the Wizards.

once I got here, it seemed very competitive to me," Lopez told Goal.com's Andrea Canales

Lopez endured an up-and-down first season, helping to lead the Wizards to the 2008 playoffs after a shaky start, and agreed to return for only $180,000 -- down from the DP
salary of $720,000 in 2008. "In the beginning, it's hard to adjust, simply because of not knowing the language," Lopez added. "But I had the help of a lot of good people here in Kansas City."
