Lower Merion claims US Youth National League title

Lower Merion Velez won the US Youth Soccer National League under-17 boys championship when it beat Eastern Pennsylvania rival YMS Xplosion, 2-0, in a makeup game.

Both teams were tied for first with 14 points going into the game, which was scoreless until the 86th minute when Dalton Carroll scored for Lower Merion. Teammate Kevin Isreal added an insurance goal in the 90th minute for the National League title and a return trip to the National Championships.

A second makeup was scheduled in Jackson, Miss., between the Dallas Texans-Houston Red and Cobb FC of Georgia for Saturday, but it had to be rescheduled for Sunday morning because of bad weather. The Texans earned a 3-1 win thanks to goals by Alexander Suarez, Anderson McDaniel and Marlos Escobar that gave them second place ahead of YMS and a berth in the National Championships by earning one of the top two spots in their age group in the National League.
