[MLS WINNERS & LOSERS] Undefeated Chicago Fire made its streak look better in Toronto, but Los Angeles settled for another stalemate. The Red Bulls' red-card
problem continued while FC Dallas and Real Salt Lake disappointed at home.
WINNERS CHICAGO FIRE. Its status as the only undefeated team
was blemished because its last five games ended in ties (a league record for consecutive ties). But on Saturday the Fire got its third win of the season, beating Toronto, 2-0, thanks to goals by
Chris Rolfe and
Brian McBride.
EDDIE LEWIS. On his 35th birthday, the winger who returned to MLS after more than half a decade in
England, scored on a 28-yard shot in stoppage time to give the Los Angeles Galaxy a 1-1 tie against defending champ Columbus. The Galaxy is still looking for its second win of the season but is on a
seven-game unbeaten streak.
MAYKEL GALINDO. Chivas USA's injury-plagued striker made his first start in more than a year and scored in a 2-2 tie with D.C. United that
stretched his team's lead in the West to eight points ahead of second-place Seattle. Also on target for Chivas USA was 2009 Mexican newcomer
Eduardo Lillingston. D.C. United made up
the two-goal deficit with strikes by strikes by
Luciano Emilio - his fifth of the season - and
Santino Quaranta, who also assisted on Emilio's goal. Galindo scored 12
goals in 2007 but struck just once last season.
LOSERS
RED BULLS. New York has had a player red-carded in four of its 10 games. On
Saturday, it was
Jorge Rojas who was ejected, in the 35th minute against the Houston Dynamo. The Red Bulls managed to hold off the Dynamo until the 78th minute, when
Chris
Wondolowski scored, and late sub
John Wolyniec struck with two minutes left to earn them a 1-1 home tie, but the 2008 runner-up remains second-to-last in the East with a
2-5-3 record.
NEW ENGLAND. The Revs' winless streak reached five games with a 1-1 tie at home against the Colorado Rapids, whose
Conor Casey scored his
fifth goal of the season in the third minute. The Revs responded with a penalty-kick strike from
Steve Ralston in the 18th minute but haven't won in six weeks.
FC
DALLAS. After playing on the road and losing its last three games, FC Dallas got a lukewarm homecoming - a Pizza Hut Park crowd of 8,247 - and could only muster a 1-1 tie with expansion club
Seattle, which took the lead in the lead in the 18th minute thanks to
Jhon Kennedy Hurtado but gave up a first-half stoppage time equalizer by
Andre Rocha. FC Dallas,
with a 1-6-2 record, is tied for last in the West with San Jose, which has a game in hand.
REAL SALT LAKE. Its dominance at the Rio Tinto Stadium has made up for Real Salt
Lake's dismal road play - four losses in four tries - but on Saturday it lost its first home game.
Josh Wolff scored both goals in Kansas City's 2-0 triumph.
