Leo Krupnik wins Israeli title with Maccabi Haifa

[AMERICANS ABROAD] San Francisco product Leo Krupnik, 29, who played college ball at Cal, helped Maccabi Haifa win the Israeli Premier League title.

Krupnik, who finished his college career in 2001, played for USL teams Wilmington Hammerheads and Charleston Battery before moving to Israel in 2005. He joined Maccabi Haifa in 2008.

Born in Ukraine, Krupnik immigrated to California with his family and starred at San Francisco's George Washington High School. Maccabi Haifa clinched its 11th title and first since 2006 with a 2-0 win over Maccabi Netanya on Saturday. The title earns it a spot in next year's UEFA Champions League qualifying round.
