Gene Mishalow, who played in goal for five NASL teams, has been named the academy director of the McLean (Va.) Youth Soccer, one of six clubs joining the U.S.
Youth Soccer for the 2009-10 season.
Mishalow, a long-time Northern Virginia resident, will oversee the U18 and U16 boys Academy teams.
Said
Clyde Watson, MYS technical director and director of coaching, "Few coaches can boast of 15 state championships, two regional champions and a national title as well as a NCAA
Division I championship. MYS is fortunate to have a coach of Gene's caliber and experience on board to lead the Academy."
Mishalow, a former SIU-Edwardsville player, was an assistant
coach for George Mason, which won the NCAA women's national championship in 1985. He has worked with youth programs at the Northern Virginia Majestics, Braddock Road Youth Club and D.C. United.
