More than two months after his arrest for allegedly assaulting his two daughters and placement on leave of absence, Clemson University men's coach
Trevor
Adair has resigned. Tiger assistant
Phil Hindson will take over as interim head coach for the 2009 season.
"After a great deal of thought
and prayer," Adair said in a statement released by the school, "I believe the time is right to pursue other opportunities in coaching and to help transition the Clemson program to new
leadership."
Adair, 48, was released on a $10,000 personal recognizance bond after being charged with two counts of assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature following an
incident that took place on an early Saturday morning.
Police responded to reports of a fight and were told by witnesses that Adair struck his two daughters several times, causing minor
injuries, according to the
Daily Journal/Messenger.
"We had many bright
moments at Riggs Field during his tenure and we wish him the best in his future endeavors," Clemson Athletic Director
Terry Don Phillips said in a
statement.
Adair has a 208-115-33 record in 18 seasons as a head coach at Brown and Clemson. He led the Tigers to the 2005 Men's College Cup semifinals and five appearances in the NCAA
Division I quarterfinals.
